PAGNKA LEPA "pa-nia-ka lay-pa"
(herbal mud poultice)
*available only as recommended after Ayurveda Consultation
Mud therapy also known in India as Mitti Chikitsa has regained modern popularity due to overwhelming evidence of its various therapeutic applications. It this therapy a mudpack is prepared with special high mineral content clay. The clay is made into a smooth paste by adding Ayurvedic herbal concoctions. This preparation is then spread on a strip of cloth. The therapy begins with a warm herbal Samya Dosha Oil massage of the abdomen paying specific attention to the Marma (vital) points in the area. The abdomen is then treated to a warm towel steam. After this, the mud pack is applied and you are wrapped warmly while enjoying a foot massage. Please do not eat for 1-2 hours prior to this therapy. A rest period of one hour prior to exercise, and increased fluid intake is suggested after this therapy.
Benefits: Mud
dilutes and absorbs toxic substances and ultimately eliminates them
from the body. Mud and clay poultices have been traditionally used to
help various disorders such as: constipation, digestive disorders,
inflammatory conditions, arthritis, fibromyalgia, injury & tissue
regeneration, various skin conditions, circulatory disorders, hormone
imbalance, infertility, pain, depression, stress, migraine, insomnia,
psychological disorders, asthma, indigestion, spondylitis, sciatica,
paralysis, eczema, viral infection, general ill health, etc. Mud is a
good absorbent, solvent and eliminator of toxins and thereby it
rejuvenates the body. The most important benefit of the mudpack is the
retention of moisture and coolness for long periods. The cold moisture
in the mudpack relaxes the pores of the skin, draws the blood into the
surface, relieves inner congestion and pain, and promotes heat radiation
and elimination of morbid matter.
